Advertised Bogons or martians are prefixes that are excluded from a public Internet use by the authorities, but get announced into the global routing table via BGP. Most of these Bogons result from a misconfiguration or an error. However, Bogons are also popular in hacking or malicious activities and are used by spammers and those who initiate distributed denial-of-service attacks.
